Conductor
Wilbert Staal is a highly experienced conductor who works with a wide variety of music. As a boy, he sang both Gregorian and modern classical masses in Catholic Limburg. As a mathematics student in Nijmegen, he sang light music arrangements by the Comedian Harmonists in a male octet. For him, making music is primarily about experiencing music and conveying that experience to the listener. He completed his choral conducting studies in Amsterdam at the Sweelinck Conservatory with Daniel Reuß. He has performed both the "old" major works such as Bach's St. John Passion and Brahms's Deutsches Requiem, as well as challenging a cappella choral works such as Schönberg's dodecaphonic "Friede auf Erden." He has also conducted numerous musical theater productions, collaborating with various directors. Wilbert has worked with the Gelders Bach Ensemble, Audite Nova, the Nijmegen Student Choir Alphons Diepenbrock, the East Netherlands Chamber Choir, the Brabant Chamber Choir, the Hollands Vocaal Ensemble, the Arnhem Chamber Choir, and the Kalliope Chamber Choir
